This sausage dip is a quick and easy appetizer to throw together in a rush. It’s a crowd pleaser and perfect for football season. This is actually my husband’s recipe that he taught me when we were dating. It’s a favorite in our family and one that shows up on our table at most gatherings.

Recipe Versions

There are so many versions of this sausage dip online and on Pinterest. A popular version of this recipe is to add Velveeta cheese, making it like a queso. My husband’s version of this recipe does not contain Velveeta cheese, only cream cheese. This worked out perfect for me because Velveeta cheese was not gluten free when I started making this. However, it is now!

Kraft Foods has totally evolved since I was diagnosed with Celiac. Several years ago the company changed their labeling making it easier to read and know if the product was gluten free. They also changed a lot of their products to make them gluten free which I’m so grateful for.

Recipe Tips
CREAM CHEESE

This appetizer is definitely comforting which is hard to make it “healthy.” If you’re following a keto diet then this recipe would work for you, minus the corn chips. I’ve used organic cream cheese to make this and it turns out just the same as using a big brand of cream cheese.

SAUSAGE

My favorite sausage to use in this recipe is Butcher Box breakfast sausage. I always add extra sausage to my monthly meat subscription so I will have it on hand. It definitely elevates this appetizer because the sausage is less fatty and really tender. You can check out Butcher Box here and by using this link, a coupon code will be added to your order.

TOMATOES & GREEN CHILIES

As far as the can of tomatoes and green chilies, Rotel Original is my favorite. It gives this recipe just the right amount of heat. If you prefer spicy food then I would use Rotel Hot. You can also use a spicy sausage to kick up the heat for this recipe too.

CORN CHIPS

I ALWAYS buy organic corn chips, especially since a lot of corn is genetically modified. Recently I came across Late July Grain Free Tortilla Chips and they are amazing! I’ve been buying them every week at the store since I found them at Harris Teeter. We eat them weekly for a snack with salsa, guacamole, and hummus.

I’ve noticed that this chip holds up well and does not break when you use it to scoop. I’ve also found that it doesn’t get soggy when you crunch it up and put it on top of soups or chili. I’m not affiliated with this brand, I just love their product!

I hope you’ll try this recipe out for your next football game and officially enjoy this first week of fall!
