Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! Say it three times and that’s just about how fast you can throw together this Beetlejuice movie party. Beetlejuice is an iconic Halloween movie of our generation, and one of my husband’s favorites. I love to take a movie that we enjoy and turn it into an experience.

In this post, I’ll explain how you can have your own Beetlejuice movie party that’s budget friendly! I’ll start with the decor.

Decor

I kept the decor simple by buying a few things at Michael’s and creating party prints. My main inspiration for the decor comes from two movie scenes in Beetlejuice. The first scene is where the Maitlands look in The Handbook for the Recently Deceased and find the instructions to “draw a door.” If you notice in that scene when they open the door, the room has a green light.

Behind The Brick Door

I decorated my living room as the “green room” behind the brick door. To recreate the feel of that movie scene, I placed green light bulbs in my lamps. You can also add a fog machine to this room to make it feel authentic.

I threw old sheets on my furniture and placed my party prints around the room. In 11×14 frames that are over my couch, I placed Beetlejuice movie quotes in them. Then I set the TV to the movie scene where the “model” of the town is shown.

The Brick Door

The brick door is created by using brick scrapbook paper that I purchased at Michael’s. To create this door, I needed about about 10-12 sheets of paper and taped them to my living room door using double sided tape. Then using a piece of white chalk I “drew a door” with a knob just like you see in the movie. I also made a sign that says, ” In Case of Emergency, Draw a Door” and taped that sign to the brick door.

If you don’t have a door leading into the room you want to turn into your “green room,” then I would suggest creating a door on the wall. Using the brick paper, you will tape 3 sheets of paper across and and at least 6-8 sheets of paper down. Once you have created your brick wall, “draw a door” with white chalk.

Local Craft Store
  • 10-12 sheets of brick scrapbook paper, or however big you want to make your door.
  • Double sided tape.
  • White chalk.
  • White card stock to print movie quotes and signs on.
  • Frames for movie quotes if you don’t have any, or you can tape these on the wall too.
Other Supplies Needed
  • 1 or 2 bed sheets to throw over your furniture.
  • Green light bulbs to place in your lamps or light fixture.
  • Scissors or paper cutter.
  • Lindz Little Print Shop, Beetlejuice Party Prints.

A while back I opened an Etsy Store, Lindz Little Print Shop, to house all my party prints and digital holiday products. I uploaded and listed my Beetlejuice prints that I used to create this party in my store with several different bundle options. You can find my shop here and check out all the Beetlejuice prints that I have available. Below are the prints that I printed, cut out, and used for this Beetlejuice movie party.

A few years ago I purchased The Handbook for the Recently Deceased from an Etsy seller, but the product is no longer available. I did find a notebook that says on the cover, “The Handbook for the Recently Deceased” here on Amazon if you are wanting to display this for decor.

Dinner Decor & Food
Food

The second movie scene that inspired me in this film was the dinner scene where the Deetz’s are eating Duffy’s Cantonese. I wanted to create a meal and menu around this scene because ordering takeout is better than cooking all evening for a party. It can be challenging to find gluten free Chinese food, so I used frozen, Feel Good Foods that I bought at Whole Foods. I also thew together a quick instant pot Chicken Fried Rice with Yum Yum sauce.

However, if you don’t want to be in the kitchen at all, then P.F Changs has a great gluten free menu with lots of options.

For dessert, I simply bought candy bars and taped my Zagnut label on each candy bar. It’s really hard to find a Zagnut Candy Bars unless you order them in bulk on Amazon. I did not need 12-24 Zagnut bars so I created a candy label and taped it to a different candy bar instead.

Dinner Decor

To create my dinner decor, I bought a pack of white take-out containers from Michael’s that I used to set at every place setting with fried rice in them. My Duffy’s Cantonese labels were placed on the take-out containers using double sided tape. These containers can also be used to serve side dishes of gluten free egg rolls and potstickers.

I found concrete looking plates at Target for a few dollars a piece and set these plates at each table setting along with chopsticks. I wanted to use these plates because if you notice in the movie, Delia Deetz decorates her home with a grey concrete look. So, I thought these plates would be perfect to add a little Delia Deetz touch to the party.

For my center piece I used black flowers that I found at Michael’s and placed some Maitland ghost pictures around the centerpiece with red tapered candles. However in the movie, the centerpiece on the table is a glass bowl filled with green pears. This idea would look great and is budget friendly, especially if you already have these things.

Final Thoughts

To add a little extra fun I printed and framed my “Betelgeuse” and “It’s Showtime” signs to set around the table. In the background I had the Beetlejuice soundtrack from the movie lightly playing.
